Half-cut solar cells advantages:
By cutting solar cells in half, the current generated from each cell is halved, and lower current flowing leads to lower resistive losses as electricity moves throughout cells and wires in a solar panel.
2. Higher shade tolerance
Typically, cells in a standard panel are connected in 3 rows. shading of a single cell might put the whole row out of action, thus affecting a third of the total power output. on the other hand, split cells panels have twice more rows. therefore, the shading of one cell affects only a sixth of the total power output.
3. Less hot spots
When one solar cell in a panel cell string is shaded, all the preceding unshaded cells can dump the energy they produce into the first shaded cell as heat. this creates a hot spot that can potentially damage the solar panel if it lasts for a long time. Twice as many panel cell strings mean only half as much heat. The lower heat production should be less damaging to the panel so there would be an improvement in resistance to hot spot damage and increases the module longevity.
