Pay equal attention to fisheries and energy. New research direction of marine PV
“But a man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated”
—— 《The Old Man and the Sea》
This is a classic quotation from the old man and the sea, which should be familiar to every reader. But you may not know that this book is adapted from real people.
After the first World War, Hemingway met a fisherman when he moved to Cuba. Many years later, it was adapted into a novel based on the fisherman's experience of fishing at sea. Therefore, the ocean fishing scene in this novel is realistic. As time goes by, the fishing industry has changed. However, pelagic fishery is still dangerous, which is one of the few tough guy representative industries at present. Approaching father's day, we also pay tribute to all “super men”. Happy holidays!
When it comes to fisheries, in addition to representative ocean fishing, fish farming is also an important component. It happened that these days, when browsing the industry news, I found an important news that offshore PV will usher in the tide of research and development. This may accelerate the transformation and development of fisheries.
Make good use of 70.8% of the earth's area
With the impact of the current international situation, countries are actively promoting energy transformation, and renewable energy has become the focus of energy supply. Among them, only wind energy and photovoltaic can be developed at parity, market and scale. Due to the limit of land area, Aquatic project that make good use of 70.8% of the earth's area have become a research and development hotspot.
In April this year, Shandong, China, launched a number of floating offshore photovoltaic subsidy policies. Taking RMB 400-1000 per kW as the subsidy standard, projects with an installed capacity of than 100-400mw meet the subsidy requirements. In order to complete the grid connection in 2022-2025.
In fact, in September last year, the EU launched the offshore photovoltaic funding project - "Horizon Europe", with a total funding of 10million euros. At present, three projects have been selected, and each project has received 3.5 million euros.
However, due to many requirements for offshore projects, it is only in the stage of tentative scientific research and development. Only a small number of offshore PV plants are used for experimental operation.
One of the EU funded offshore PV projects
Distribution of offshore energy area
Based on the existing technology, there are two PV technology routes to realize the possibility of offshore PV, namely, offshore energy island and floating (including tidal flat) PV. The two technical routes have different requirements for terrain.
So we need to know what kind of water area the floating PV is suitable for. Here, it is necessary to divide the distribution area of marine energy into five zones:
A. Mudflat
B. Intertidal zone
C. The subtidal zone with water depth less than 5m (usually used as the water depth sea area where it is difficult for construction vessels to enter the site for construction)
D. 5~70m water depth zone (critical water depth of offshore platform fixed pile and floating economic development area)
E. Water depth zone above 70m (possibly deeper. oceangoing navigation and fishing areas)
For the middle critical 5~70m water depth zone, the four points of berthing, wind, wave and flapping need to be handled well in order to establish an offshore platform. However, no matter which one, feasible schemes are being studied at present.
From the above, it can be seen that the establishment of offshore photovoltaic power stations in the water depth zone of 5~70m will be a difficulty in research and development. However, once completed, the installed capacity and power generation of PV will be much larger than that of offshore wind power.
Comparison with offshore wind power
The power generation of floating photovoltaic and offshore wind power in the water depth of 5~70m is compared. Considering the requirements of various channels and safe distances, four wind power towers are set with a formation area of 0.8km ² Rectangular sea surface. Calculated based on 6MW wind power unit capacity. Assuming that the indexes of the row column matrix around each wind power tower are the same, compared with PV, basic techno-economic parameters of wind power should be 1/4. Then the installed capacity of wind power is 6 × 4/4=6MW;
(Note: Basic techno-economic parameters are quantitative indicators that reflect a specific range of techno-economic phenomena.)
Under the same area, 50% of the area is used to install 100w/m2 PV modules. Assuming that all indicators of the PV matrix are the same, the PV installed capacity will be 40MW. The ratio to the installed capacity of wind power is 40MW/6MW = 6.68 times; If the utilization time of wind power is 4 times of the utilization time of photovoltaic power, the relationship between photovoltaic power generation and wind power generation is 6.68/4 = 1.67 times. It can be seen that the installed capacity and power generation scale of PV are larger than that of offshore wind power. Of course, all this should be based on the establishment of floating platform.
fishery-solar hybrid project (system)
Although it is difficult to establish offshore photovoltaic power stations in the 5~70m water depth zone, it is very mature to establish photovoltaic power stations in the coastal tidal flat area. After the construction of the water depth zone of 5~70m is solved, the fishery can use the photovoltaic system of “fishery-solar hybrid project (system)" for ocean development to generate more benefits. It's like the picture below
Source: People's Daily Online
"Fishery-solar hybrid project (system)" refers to the combination of Fishery Farming and photovoltaic power generation. Solar panels are erected above the water surface of the fish pond, and fish and shrimp farming can be carried out in the waters below. This form can not only generate electricity, but also make fish grow better. The main functions of solar panels are as follows:
(1) Reduce breeding accidents in hot seasons, control temperature and reduce heat, and reduce fish diseases.
(2) It greatly improves the utilization rate of land and is conducive to enhancing the economic value of land.
(3) It blocks part of the sunlight, reduces the photosynthesis of algae and improves the water quality.
(4) Photovoltaic power generation can also supply power to the aerator, water pump and other equipment in the fish pond to reduce the breeding cost. The excess power can be sold to the power grid at the price of green power. Generally, it can be paid back in 9-10 years. The service life of solar panels is generally more than 15 years.
By making full use of the above four points, we can increase the output of fishery breeding and reduce the production cost. Of course, there are also weaknesses in the "Fishery-solar hybrid project (system)" and regular maintenance is required. As water vapor is easy to be generated in a humid and high-temperature environment, if the water vapor goes deep into the components, the conductivity of the packaging material (ENC) will increase, and the leakage current of the corresponding components will increase, which will cause the component surface polarization phenomenon, i.e. PID effect.
Feasible methods to reduce the occurrence rate of PID
Therefore, in the high humidity or high temperature environment, Fishery-solar hybrid project system, Coastal photovoltaic system and Photovoltaic system near the equator, the power loss of photovoltaic system will be severe due to PID effect. Therefore, you need high-quality photovoltaic modules to reduce maintenance frequency and PID generation efficiency. Therefore, we recommend this double glass module
"SPDGxxx-120m10"
M10 battery, 10-busbar design, 12-year warranty, 25-year 84.8% performance guarantee, efficiency up to 21.24%, maximum power 460W. Double glass has higher conduction efficiency, corrosion resistance, better flame retardancy and easier cleaning.

With the continuous advancement of technology, the fishery has not been an extensive random fishing. In recent years, the fishery measures and environmental problems of various countries have had a serious impact on the fishing industry.
For fishery practitioners, meticulous aquaculture may yield higher profits during the closed season. When the market-oriented and large-scale problems of offshore PV are solved in the future, it will be possible to breed offshore fish, which will inevitably provide a new development direction for fisheries. It's time to get ready in advance.
